What It Takes?
Prove It.
Applications for the 2026–2027 Research Internship cycle closed on July 3, 2026. The information below remains available for reference.
Close to home.
Metaboly is based at Trent University. For students that proximity is not incidental, it's an advantage.
Academic integration
Your internship work runs alongside your coursework, not apart from it. The proximity means you can draw direct connections between what you study and what you apply.
Real laboratory exposure
You will work inside a functioning analytical and research environment at the same institution where your degree is taking shape. That combination is rare.
Research-driven culture
Metaboly operates with a research orientation embedded in its laboratory work. Students placed here develop habits of thought and practice suited to graduate school and professional science.
Community continuity
You do not have to leave your university community to do serious professional work. The internship is designed to extend your academic development, not interrupt it.
Graduate & professional preparation
Whether you are heading toward graduate school, veterinary medicine, pharmacy, biotechnology, or a research career, this placement builds the kind of experience that matters in those applications.
Strong institutional connections
Metaboly's relationship with Trent University means students benefit from a collaborative environment that bridges institutional research and applied health and environmental analysis.
Choose your stream.
Both streams share the same duration, application requirements, and expectations.
Advanced Genomics & Bioinformatics
Work within an active research environment focused on equine genomics and molecular biology. Students in this stream contribute to sequencing workflows, bioinformatics pipelines, and the organization of complex biological datasets. The work is research-grade — you will be expected to think critically, document carefully, and engage with material that goes well beyond coursework.
Best suited for
- Students in molecular biology, genetics, or biochemistry
- Those with some exposure to computational tools or biological data
- Students considering graduate school in genomics or related fields
Toxicology & Mass Spectrometry
Work in a functioning analytical chemistry laboratory conducting trace element analysis, toxicological screening, and environmental health research. Students in this stream spend meaningful time at the bench — preparing samples, operating instrumentation, and contributing to quality documentation. The work is hands-on and technically demanding.
Best suited for
- Students in chemistry, toxicology, or environmental science
- Those with wet-lab experience or a strong interest in instrumentation
- Students considering careers in analytical chemistry or health research
Shared internship details.
These conditions apply to both streams equally. One set of expectations, regardless of which stream a candidate is placed in.
Meeting eligibility requirements does not guarantee an interview or placement offer.

Initial academic and fit review
We review each submission for academic strength, stream alignment, and professional readiness. You will receive a response within two to three weeks.
Interview
Shortlisted candidates are invited for a structured conversation. This is not a formality — come prepared to discuss your scientific interests, academic work, and reasoning.
Conditional offer
Selected candidates receive a placement offer outlining scope, expectations, and timeline. A vulnerable sector check may be required at this stage. Onboarding takes place before the placement begins.
